the intricate cutting process

If you’ve never been the Renegade Craft Fair, it’s an awesome convention for indie craft artists to showcase and sell their work. No matter what you’re into, it’s inspiring to browse the various creations and meeting the people that work so hard to create them who are so eager to share.

I was particularly intrigued by Holly’s foldout card creations. I was instantly reminded of pop-up books from my childhood. Then as I began to explore her cards in detail, I realized there was much more to it. As she told us, it was “a way to get absorbed into a new environment”. The level of detail in her work and the layers that make up the cards do just that.

I had a good feeling that the process of her making these cards would be great to capture on camera, so I proposed making a short video for her that would allow her to tell her story as well as highlight her work.

The shoot was very informative and engaging; I loved getting the close-ups of the process. She was so open and detailed with her approach that it gave me many options in editing room to craft her story in a short amount of time.
